Myths With Corona Virus

1. The heat will kill the Virus
Though we thought initially that the Coronavirus was a winter virus and that like the Flu its transmission would slow or die down in the summers it is not so. The virus continues to transmit and infect persons.
"Viruses do not replicate outside the living cell but the infectious virus may persist on contaminated environmental surfaces and the duration of persistence of viable virus is affected markedly by temperature and humidity.
In the present study, we have demonstrated that SARS CoV can survive at least two weeks after drying at temperature and humidity conditions found in an air-conditioned environment. The virus is stable for 3 weeks at room temperature in a liquid environment but it is easily killed by heat at 56°C for 15 minutes. This indicates that SARS CoV is a stable virus that may potentially be transmitted by indirect contact or fomites. " (K H Chan et all - hindawi.com).

2. Flu Vaccine will give you immunity against Coronavirus

The Flu vaccine is an annual Vaccine and offers no immunity against Covid-19 since the genetic material is different.

3. Eating Garlic, or some kind of foods will boost your Immunity against the Virus

There is no evidence that eating any kind of food or drinking alcohol will prevent you from catching the Coronavirus. There was a myth that smokers were immune to the infection but that was also found to be untrue.
However, for maintaining good immunity it is recommended that you eat  a well-balanced diet and do moderate physical activity every day.

4. Only elderly are at risk from a serious infection

Initially, as a cruel joke, the younger people started calling the disease "Boomer Remover" believing that only the elderly would die from it.
This is not true - more than age your fitness as well as the presence of other diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart problem etc are more important factors. You are more likely to have a serious outcome if you are very obese.

5. Wearing a mask will prevent me from getting the infection

The usual homemade or cloth masks that we use, including the double-layered mask do not offer a high level of protection. The reason for everyone to wear a mask is the prevent asymptomatic carriers from passing on an infection to others.

6. Eating Non - Vegetarian food can lead to infection

There is absolutely no evidence for this. The myth arose because the origin of the Virus is from an animal and because the infection is said to have arisen from a non-vegetarian market in China. You can, however safely eat non-vegetarian food.
